Send from any app on Android
Share photos, files, text and links from any Android app straight into WhispShare, and use the three shortcuts on its Home Screen icon.
Before you start
This works on Android and ChromeOS once WhispShare is added to the Home Screen. It does not work in a plain browser tab, and not on iPhone, which has no sharing for web apps.
Steps
- In any app, open a photo, a file or a page and tap Share.
- Choose WhispShare in the share sheet. If it is not there, add WhispShare to the Home Screen first (see Add to Home Screen).
- WhispShare opens on the Send screen with what you shared. Add a few words if you like and choose who gets it; the device you used last is already chosen.
- Tap Send. If the other device is not here yet, the files wait on your phone and go when you are both here.
Shortcuts on the Home Screen
Touch and hold the WhispShare icon to see three shortcuts: Send photos to my computer opens the photo picker with the device you used last already chosen, Scan a code opens the camera, and Show my code shows a code another device can scan.
If something goes wrong
A file is left out when it is more than one transfer can carry (2 GiB) or when the phone has too little free space; the Send screen names it and says why. Shared files are kept on the phone for one hour and then removed, so share again if the Send screen says they are gone. Your files are kept nowhere but on your phone until they go to the other device. When both devices are here they go straight across; when they are on different networks and a plan covers the relay, they pass through it encrypted, and the relay keeps nothing. Only a short note of up to 280 characters can wait on our server, sealed, until the other device picks it up.
