Forms and orders
Turn a menu, a price list or a form into pages your guests tap, and confirm what they send from your desk.
Before you start
You need a business with a link and the role of admin or owner. A form belongs to one link, so make the link first (see Business) and print its QR code (see QR cards). Nothing is paid in WhispShare: a price on a form is only shown.
Steps
You can move a zone with the arrow keys (Shift for larger steps) and resize it with Alt and the arrow keys. Every zone is also listed under the page, which is what a screen reader reads.
- Open the Links tab of the console and choose Form on the link.
- Add the pages: pictures (PNG, JPEG or WebP) or a PDF. A form has up to five pages. Each page is made at most 2,000 pixels on its long side and 2 MB, and a PDF is turned into pictures on your computer, so the PDF itself never leaves it.
- Drag on a page to draw a zone over each thing a guest can choose, and give it a name. A zone can be a quantity, one of a group (only one zone of the group can be chosen), a yes or no, a line of words, or a photo. It can show a price, have a least and a most, and be available only at certain times.
- Choose what the guest fills in: table number, name, phone and e-mail, each off, optional or required, and whether a note is allowed. Write the message that is sent when you confirm.
- Set the most different items in one request and the most of one item. Save. Every save makes a new version, and orders made on an older version still read correctly.
What guests see
The pages one under the other, which they can pinch to zoom. A tap adds one; pressing and holding, or the bar at the bottom, changes the number or takes it off. The bar shows what they chose, for example "2 × Margherita, 1 × Water · table 12". If you are closed, the page says when you open next.
What you see
An order arrives as one request: the table, the items with their quantities, the note and the other details. Accept it, then Confirm, Decline or Ask for more in the chat. A receiver on your computer saves the order as order.json for a program and order.txt for a ticket printer in the folder of that session, and the headless receiver can post it to a webhook.
If something goes wrong
An order has to fit in about 280 characters, so it can wait for you while you are closed. When a guest chooses too many items the page says "Too many items for one request" and they send two. The form pages are public, like your logo: anyone with the link can see them. A guest's order is never kept on our servers; it is sealed to you. Limited time means limited access, not limited copies: we cannot stop a screenshot or a saved copy.
